' A short distance off left was St Paul's Church, in which I was christened in 1937. My family moved just before the war only to be bombed out in the September 1940 air raid on the Bristol Aeroplane Company works. However, in a particularly murderous air raid early in WW2,a good friend of mine (Stan) recounted that there was considerable H.E. (High Explosive Bombing) and that St Pauls was burned out and that the residents in nearby streets had only one avenue of escape to air raid shelters in the Wills Factory - down the narrow and very appropriately named 'LUCKY LANE'. '
