Goods shed actually. The original engine shed was on the opposite side of the main line east of the station, though as traffic increased replacement facilities were constructed at Exmouth Junction.

My thought exactly - they are great for detail! We are picking up some really good details in the images from jsut before and just after WWII, to do with ARP preparations and the aftermath.

Hi Katy. I've recently been looking at the areas I know well in greater magnification and the detail is phenomenal. Turns in the road, demolished buildings, fields and trees now housing, horses and carts, the complete absence of people and vehicles. I recommend anyone who knows an area well to really delve into the photo, it will provide an emotional satisfaction and pleasure. I even found my grandparents house just after they moved into it with bedsheets hanging out to dry on the washing line. A true moment in time.

I should add that this was a rough and ready place to stand in the sixties but it was at least dry viewing in the rain. The noise and cigarette smoke wafting through the place gave it a character of its own!



Now replaced by a smart modern all seater grandstand and executive boxes.

The 1933 Cup Final was held on 29 April. Finals were not regularly staged in May until the 1950s.
