' This property was built circa 1865 as a "Grocers and Tea Merchants" shop. Until 1882, when the direction of numbering was reversed, it was recorded as No 377 Park Road but, post 1882, it became No 274 Park Road. A succession of some 10 No proprietors traded as grocers, tea and provisions merchants until 1912 when Ellen Rice took it over to run it as a "Pawnbrokers". This continued until 1940/41 when, for short time, a May Alexander operated from it as a "Wardrobe Director" (second hand clothes ?). Late in 1942 its commercial use stopped and it was taken as private domestic rented property which continued until 1966/67 when it was demolished in the major clearance work of that time. '
