' Spitalfields Market in Tower Hamlets, formerly Stepney Borough. There has been a Market here since the 1200's. The Market Hall at the eastern end was completed in 1893 by private owner, Robert Horner, who started as a market porter. The western end was an extension, added in 1928 by the City Corporation, who acquired this East End market from Horner, in 1920. In 2003, the 1928 extension was demolished for the Bishops Square development. There is still a market in the 1893 Market Hall, called 'Old Spitalfields Market' but it no longer is concerned with the wholesale trade in fruit and vegetables, as this trade was moved out in 1991. Now Spitalfields Market has become a fashion, design and antiques market. '
