' This photo was taken at the peak of the floods on Wednesday 19th March 1947 when the river was 6' 9" above normal. This pin locates the landing area in Alma Road served by amphibious vehicles, the 'ducks' (DUKWs), which Windsor had secured for residents' use in getting about through the floods. There is an extensive contemporary account of the floods here: http://www.thamesweb.co.uk/windsor/windsorhistory/floods47.html '
