Old oak trees left in the slurry pond died and fell over.
During the demolition of the colliery dragline cranes were used to clear the dried slurry.
Sid Raggett was operating one of the dragline cranes when his dragline snagged on an old oak tree and almost pulled the crane into the slurry pond.
Before this slurry pond was constructed a concrete cullvate to pipe the stream water towards the river Dearn was built to run under the slurry pond.
At a later date the stream was diverted towards the dyke running from Monkey Park towards Carr Green and Swallow Hill, bottom of Hill End Lane. '
