I need to correct myself . This was the position of the original "iron mission " Holy Innocents daughter church , however in 1921 this was converted into St Micheals Parochial hall (article Middleton Guardian) used for dances , youth club and 2nd Middleton Scout group . Further to the east on Kenyon Lane is the newly constructed replacement Holy Innocents Church . Photo EPW016450 shows both these at once , a current parishioner now assures me the demolition photos of an arched roofed church are the 1925 built Holy Innocents about 1978 . Kelvin

Old Vicarage, St Micheals See comments regarding the first "million fund" brick built church, "Tonge Parsonage" appears on the 1844 OS map here and on all since, in the main the bricks look old (except some of the kitchen) so this was probably built with the first 1838 church.

Bank Top - formerly known as Bank Top Cottage before additional houses were built. The original Bank Top Cottage was lived in for many years by my Jacques ancestors.

Note the change in shade of the roof. In 1838 the original brick "million fund" church was built.

In 1901 a stone extension was added (right hand end darker roof), then in 1911 the brick section was demolished and the rest of nave built (left hand end, lighter roof). The joint can still be seen easily inside.

In 1930 the present tower was added paid by Lees (brewery) money..
