This track to London was opened in 1850 - as two tracks, in the 1920's because of increasing traffic it was increase to four and two more bridges were built.One over the Nene another over the cross country line to March.

Old original GNR River Nene Viaduct - On eastern side of track - Preservation order in 1988 - oldest cast iron bridge in the world carrying main line 100 MPH trains.

Construction work on the new town bridge over the River Nene - Completed and opened in 1934 - The bridge, still there now enabled the level crossing to be removed as it also spanned the railway to March/Cambridge.

This is the blocked up entrance to the old Great Northern Railway/River transit dock - Barges entered here to load and unload - there was a small cast iron bridge over the entrance to enable continuation of the River Nene towpath.
