Beacon Hill. Trinity House built a lighthouse here in 1828 to test new types of lamps and reflectors and the lighting values of different types of oil. It was taken out of use in the 1870s.

This was also said to be the site of a World War 1 anti-aircraft battery which claimed to have been the first to shoot down a Zeppelin (L15), although this was also claimed by the crew of an anti-aircraft gun at the Brent in Dartford. '
