' Elm trees forming a straight course for horse racing. After the war the area of green became known as "The Course" and sadly those Elms had to be felled during the Dutch Elm disease outbreak around the early seventies. Crouchcroft or Crouch Croft where I lived from 1955 to 1983 has yet to be built. Although intended to be houses on both sides of the road Crouch Croft, which was laid out and started pre-war it seems postwar restrictions may have prevented as only one side was completed. Perhaps the plans for the Coldharbour estate meant they would not be required? '
