Grand Atlantic Hotel. 1859 for The College, a private boys school. School moved out in 1889. The building was enlarged that year by John S Whittington and became the Grand Atlantic Hotel. There were 200 bedrooms. Jonathan Elwell's school next door was so successful that he commissioned a school to be built in the grounds of the hotel in 1854. The school opened in 1859 as Walliscote College School, known as The College from 1864. The College was sold in 1875 due to Elwell's retirement. It was bought by Dr E Nunn. Grand Atlantic Hotel opened in July 1889. The hotel had a grand formal garden, now Eddington Court, 2003. '
