' The former London Brighton and South Coast Railway station in 1928 part of the combine Southern Railway. The shape of the two stations reflect to different way of operating terminal stations - the platforms of the long Brighton station being able to accommodate two train nose to tail with third line between the outer half of the platforms to allow the departing trains to pass the later arrival. The South Eastern platforms could only take one train with some having rather narrow extensions under the Eccleston Road bridge to accommodate longer trains such as the Dover boat trains. '
