Hangars 2, 3 and 4 [L to R]
part of the first maintenance base.
------------
Initially used by BOAC and then British Eagle up to 1968.
Reverted then back to BOAC for operational support facilities/cargo handling etc till the late 1980's.
------------
Hangar 2 demolished 1990ish as part of hangar development for British Midland.
Hangar 3 demolished and site utilised first by Air India then American Airlines.
Hangar 4 site, after hangar demolition;[I think]was first used by Airport Fire service and then latterly Virgin Airlines hangar was built on the site. |

Approximate site of the hamlet of Heath Row from which the airport was eventually named. I also attach a map of the area from 1891. Heath Row can be found in the centre. |
