A white diamond on the signal pole tells the loco crew that this track is "track circuited" and if held up by this signal there is no need to carry out Rule 55. That rule would require the fireman to go to the signal box otherwise and report their presence and witness the signal man placing a steel collar on the appropriate lever as a remainder. The fireman would sign the movements book to the effect he had so witnessed this action. |
