The chimney in the distance is at the soapworks of Atkins and Nock near Soho. In 1850 it was described as 'a cloud kissing chimney which stalks up to the enormous height of 310feet. At that time it was said to be the highest in England. |

Certainly looks like melting snow, but the direction and length of shadows in Waterloo Rd suggest about 6pm in summer. |
