A pleasant ride for children and very popular - from pre WWI until 1962 when it and the 'Ritz' cinema were demolished to make room for the widening of Chapel St and construction opf the new (sic) police station and law courts. a real 'eyesore' building, out of touch with the essence of Blackpool. My Grandparents moved into No1 Chapel St in 1913, to find that they had inherited a lodger 'Herr Minstermann' a German scenic artist who worked on presentation of the various 'Grottoes'and lodged at No1. He was interned as an enemy alien during the war (in the Isle of Man I believe) but returned after the war to complete his work. |

York Street, a popular area for up market guest houses where my Grandparents ran an establishment at no.8 before WW2. |

This is the site of many excellent houses around East Street demolished to make way for a police station and law courts. |

A great photo of Central Pier and swarms of people using it and the berach. The Pier is now quite built-up with unattractive buildings and ferris wheel, which was added in 1990 costing hundreds of thousands to strengthen the pier due to its size and weight. Everything seems so much simpler and more pleasant in this photo. |
