The overhead electric supply built for the introduction of electric trains on the Heysham, Morecombe and Lancaster routes in 1908 by the Midlen Railway. This was 6.6kV and later (1953) became the basis of the early experiments in the UK 25kv system, first used in France. This was adopted by BR as the standard for all later overhead electrification.
