 Battersersea Greyhound Race Track.
The Battersea greyhound track was located on Lombards Road and Vicarage Crescent and opened for racing in 1930.
It was one of the many tracks that was forced to close during World War 2 and did not re-open. |

Opinions seem to vary as to why the track closed. It operated under NGRC rules until bought by the rival GRA in 1937. One suggestion is that it could not compete with larger rivals in the neighbourhood, but there was a suggestion the GRA wanted to close it, partly to benefit its other tracks but also to use the site for an ice rink. The war then intervened. It appears to be a very tight circuit, the final bend being practically a hairpin. |
