Haycroft Road in 1946 was one of the main routes leading eastwards from the High Street and Letchmore Road in the "Old Town". Some late Victorian properties are evident at the lower end of the road, which used to be known as Haycroft Lane, and some council housing was built during the interwar years, from the junction of Hellards Road towards Longcroft Road. This writer can remember the distinctive pebble-dash finish to these cottage-style houses in the late 1940s. How different they look today! '
