The famous Horns Bridge complex. The completed part of the ambitious Lancashire, Derbyshire & East Coast Railway opened in 1897 its line into Market Place station. To do so it constructed the viaduct seen here, a combination of 7 brick arches, 4 lattice girder spans and a bowstring bridge were required to cross two rivers, two main roads and the existing Midland Railway (main line and Brampton branch) and Great Central Railway lines. Plus various sidings and footpaths. Finally swept away c 1985. '
