' Yew Tree Lane: closed to enable the development of the first stage of Ringway (Manchester) airport shortly after World War II. It formerly ran through to Hasty Lane near the Hale boundary, with a side road (Pinfold Lane) running into the centre of Ringway village, opposite the church (St Mary & All Saints, now closed except for special events) and the pub (originally the "Red Lion", now universally known as the "Romper" supposedly after a distinctive inn sign eighty or ninety years ago led people to give it the nickname of "the Romping Kitling". '
