The station entrance originally straddled the tracks, like the one at New Cross Gate, but this was demolished and replaced with an entrance on the east side when the route was quadrupled during the 1920s. The East London Line was still part of the mainline network at this time; it didn't lose that status until nationalisation the following year, when it was handed over to the London Underground. '
