' This is a Metropolitan Vickers Bo-Bo locomotive, one of twenty built in 1922/23 for the Metropolitan Railway. It seems to be languishing in sidings for condemned stock. It is almost certainly, then, No 15 - Wembley 1924 which was so named as it was displayed in The Palace of Engineering during the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley in 1924 (although actually appearing on display during the second season of the exhibition in 1925). This loco was involved in a depot shunting accident in 1951, which resulted in its subsequent withdrawal and scrapping as being beyond economic repair. Although it is not possible to discern in this monochrome photograph, the locomotive was still at this time in its wartime austerity livery of service grey. It looks to be awaiting its fate along with assorted Q and CO/CP units. Is that a line of washing next to it? '
