' Hemmings Bakers on the corner of Queenstown Road and Lavender Hill. A few weeks after this photo was taken, on 23rd August 1950, this was to be the site of an accident involving a tramcar. The motorman of car 1396 lost control heading down Cedars Road which then ran straight across the junction and into the shop causing considerable damage. The poor motorman was trapped in the wreckage and 2 unfortunate passengers were injured. I would think a lot of others suffered from shock too. This and other incidents which also occured at this spot entered local legend as the 'runaway tram'. A photograph of the wrecked shop appears in the Middleton Press Tramway classic series covering Wandsworth and Battersea tramways. '
