' This bomb site was known by us kids in the 1960s as the 'Police Debris' - all the wate land created by the blitz was a termed the / a debris. Thus we had the Police debris and the Church debris ( area behind St John's church in Pier Road) . Generally, debris provided a safe place to play and use our imaginations. In addition, if you dug down into the ground on a debris you usually came across pieces of broken crockery and flattened enamel utensils etc. probably all that remained after being destroyed in the blitz.
