' This railway line is now a preserved steam railway (Peak Rail) which commences at Rowsley South station off to the left. To the right the next station is Darley Dale, whilst the preserved line continues to Matlock where there is an interchange with British Rail. This was the Midland Railway line between Manchester (to the left) and Derby (to the right). The route of the line can be walked from near to Buxton to Bakewell (both to the left of this image). The line from Buxton to Matlock closed -Local passenger traffic ceased in 1967 and express passenger trains ceased a year later. The two subs remain in use, terminating at Buxton (trains to Manchester) and at Matlock, with Peak Rail extending the latter stub up to Rowsley South. This section of track in the image was in preserved use by 1997. '
