Greyhound Racecourse. This was the first greyhound track in the UK, intended to attract the "rabbit coursers" of old, they didn't like it but the sport progressed anyway.
(Shared with speedway when the speedway track was sold and developed much later on) |

The Great Lake. The small island in the middle has a clock tower which was used to time the half hour boat sessions.
It took its water from a branch canal to Stockport. When this was closed and drained in the seventies, the lake lost its water, was drained, filled in, and a ten pin bowling alley erected here. |

Manchester Central Football Ground with Belle Vue Speedway around the pitch. Manchester Central AFC was soon replaced by Broughton Rangers Rugby League FC (1933). This area was later also used for a number of short lived sports and events (Baseball 1936).
Later when this site became a car sales area the speedway used the greyhound stadium. |
