Squadron code VB. Could represent No. 14 Operational Training Unit, RAF; or might represent No 221 Squadron, which served in Coastal Command, flying Wellingtons, in World War II - in which case the colour scheme/livery would have been different? |

Most likely a 14 Operational Training Unit aircraft. Little Rissington was, at this time, No. 8 Aircraft Storage Unit; later renamed No. 8 Maintenance Unit. The majority of these Wellingtons were broken up at Field Nine, Barrington Bushes to the south of the airfield. Evidence of Field Nine taxiways are still visible on Google Earth. |

There must be approaching 100 aircraft here, shame to think that there are only two complete airframes surviving, one of which was recovered from the bottom of a loch! |

I counted over 100 in just the closest field, over 650+ altogether including the ones in the distance. |
