Union Baptist/Congregationalist Church - built by cotton magnate and philantropist John Rylands, who lived in Longford Hall. Closed in the 1980s and converted into office space - now acquired by a Filipino congregation as a worship centre.

Manchester - (Lymm/Warrington Bank Quay/Livrpoool Lime Street) - Altincham- Chester (Northgate) railway line. The stretch of line between Manchester and Al;trincham had been electrified the year before this picture was taken, and the gantries for the overhead cables are visible.

This digging is the culverting of Longford Brook to allow the houses on Cromwell Road and Marston Road to be built. This is also the spot where the brook and Thirlmere aquaduct cross.
