The largest of the three vessels under construction at the Linthouse Yard could be the RMS Viceroy of India, laid down in April 1927 and launched on 15 September 1928. The vessel was a passenger liner of 19,648 tons gross, used by the Peninsular & Orient company on voyages to India. She was torpedoed by U407 in November 1942, 30 miles off Oran. Most of the crew and passengers were saved by the Royal Navy |
