As SF rightly says Brent Reservoir has always been known as the Welsh Harp, taking it's name from the aforementioned pub. By the eighteen eighties the reservoir and pub were a veritable leisure hot-spot for Londoners to have outings to, music hall songs were even written about it. It continued to be used for various water sports right through to the 1950's. There is a fine account of its history by Geoffrey Hewlett, " Welsh Harp Reservoir: Through Time" (Amberly Publishing 2011). |
