St Helier Hospital was founded in 1938 when Queen Mary laid the foundation stone. The building was completed in 1942 but less than a month later was damaged by a bomb and was struck by two flying bombs in June 1944. The hospital remained open, treating many casualties of war from nearby London. The hospital is still open as a general hospital. |
