This shows the plant in its 3-kiln form - the third was started in March 1939 and the fourth in 1954. The most prominent new feature is the third stack, designed to serve all 3 (and subsequently 4) kilns. At 100 m, it was somewhat implausibly claimed to be the tallest structure in southern England. There was still no dust filtration - this was only added in the mid 1960s. |
