PS "Queen Of Thanet" built 196 as HMS "Melton" and acquuired from ship-breakers in 1929 by the New Medway Steam Packet Co along with her quasi sister vessel "Atherstone", which became "Queen Of Kent". The "Thanet" was the only one of the two sailing in 1946 and continued on the Thames until sold to Red Funnel Steamers of Southampton in the winter of 1948/9 and renamed "Solent Queen". Subsequently scrapped in 1951. |
