The train is on the loop line that linked the two sides of the Cricklewood sidings without the need to cross the four tracks and two goods lines 'on the flat'. It was known as the 'Brent Engine Line' and was mainly used to return engines to the shed on the west side or to supply engines to awaiting trains in the sidings on the east side. This line had to drop down quite steeply to pass under the running lines to rise up again to reach the other side. Not helped by the fact that the running lines are themselves dropping on a 1:200 gradient before crossing over the River Brent just north of the North Circular Road. Single line, worked by an electric token system, it closed in 1968. |
