Netherne Psychiatric Hospital The Surrey County Asylum at Netherne was built 1907-9 to designs by George T. Hine, to alleviate overcrowding at the County Asylum at Brookwood, Woking. Renamed Netherne Mental Hospital in the 1920s. The hospital pioneered art therapy and psycchosurgery techniques. It closed in 1994 and some of the buildings have been incorporated into the new village Netherne-on-the-Hill
