This tug appears to be one of the Gamecock Steam Towage Co Ltd tugs. These had a pale blue funnel with a black top. See http://thamestugs.co.uk/GAMECOCK-S--T--Co--Ltd-.php |

The three tugs here look like Watkins boats: these were distinguished by a black funnel with a plain red band. |

Two of the three foot passenger ferries, Catherine, Edith and Rose. I think that the photo shows Edith against the jetty and Catherine out in the river. |

This car ferry is 'Mimie', the other car ferry was 'Tessa'. Here, the last vehicle is about to drive off, while four wait to be loaded. The vehicle ferry service ended on the 31st December 1964, due to the fall in custom after the opening of the Dartford Tunnel. My parents used to drive to Westcliffe to visit an old aunt, so I do remember travelling on the ferry. I don't remember using the foot passenger ferry until the Diesel boats came in to service. |

This disused chalk pit, bounded by the Overcliffe to the North, Rural Vale to the East, Dover Road to the South and Plane Avenue to the West, was my childhood adventure playground, (long before adventure playgrounds were invented). |
