Terminal point of trolleybus route 657 from Shepherds Bush. Originally LT wanted to run via a triangle from the Staines Road up Martindale Road and back up the Bath Road to the Bell. However, when the route replaced the trams, on 27th October 1935, this layby was specially constructed here at the junction with Wellington Road. The traffic lights here was one of the first examples in the London suburbs. These had a provision especially for the trolleybuses whereby the conductor of a departing bus operated a push button to stop westbound traffic to allow the bus to cross, turn and proceed back up to Shepherds Bush. Route 657 was one of the last routes to operate in London closing as part of the final stage of the trolleybus abandonment programme which was completed on 8th May 1962.
