The site of St Leonards Bathing Pool opened in 1933, of Olympic standard. Closed mid 1980s; site cleared 1993

Actually there are two stations.......towards the top right of the photo can be seen West St. Leonard's station (SE&CR) as well as the more obvious LB&SCR West Marina station. Looks like an 0-6-2t in LBSC umber to the left of the engine shed as well as the boiler of another loco in front of it. The old railway carriage body, hut and small boat in the foreground would make a lovely little cameo on a model railway. Can't see any trams but it looks like the masts for the overhead wiring are up, replacing the original Dolter stud system and subsequent use of petrol-electric traction.

What a superb photograph.......93 years ago!
