1/4 of the way up on far left is a set of 3 cottages fronting onto East St. I spent my childhood in the middle cottage, No. 35. At the back is a long row of 20 cottages known as Garden Cottages - My Gran and Grandad lived at No. 5. This photo is well before my time: suffice to say I spent a few pre war years, through the war, apart from a very short evacuation, and up until I joined the RAF in 1952. After that it was occasionally home on leave but it all stopped when Gran and Grandad moved to Australia to join their youngest daughter, Joyce, in 1954. As children,my friends and I would spend absolutely hours upon hours in the swimming pool which was of a later date than this photo and a bit further up East Street.
