Now the site of Metropole Court (flats). this was a hotel, Royal Marine Hotel. It was destroyed by bombing in WW2.

'The Destructor Works'(Council dustbins collections ended up here and were burnt hence smoke plume!My grandfather built brick chimney.)

Very interested in your comment about the Refuse Destructor. I have been trying for ages to get photos of it for a local history project but without success. I wonder if DLB or anyone else has any?
