Footpath across a plot yet to be built on... indeed this plot was filled in with two houses. The random pattern of development probably reflects the sale of a individual plots to prospective private owners to build houses, rather than developers as can be seen in the rows of similar bungalows above in the picture. It would appear the private purchasers got the plots nearest the sea while the developers went for the cheaper land further back.

The beach hut problem! How do you set a beach hut on a north facing coast? Facing the sea of course. Then it will not catch the sun. No sitting on the porch drying off in the warm sun after a quick dip in the cold waters of the north Kent coast. There are still huts in this area today but in straighter lines and smaller numbers, those to the east (top of the picture) having been cleared.
