Fascinating historical snapshot as new houses are being built in Hulham Road which was then right on the very edge of Exmouth as the town pushed out into green fields and grazing land. These three houses are now next to Withycombe Rugby Club whose ground is just over the back. What is interesting is that although there is development going on around, the houses appear to be being built one at a time and not multiple starts as nowadays. It suggests a medium size to small building company. The unfinished house is about to be roofed after which presumably the next house will be started.

This is a view looking northeast from above Lawn Road, Exmouth looking over the viaduct of the Exeter to Budleigh Salterton branch railway of the Southern Railway towards The parish Church of St. John the Evangelist, Withycombe Raleigh. The viaduct has now been demolished following closure in the 1960's. It is interesting today to see the new housing in Park Street which infills the gaps where the viaduct stood.
