The original route of the Stockton and Darlington Railway ran beside the road from Eaglescliffe towards Stockton. It was just inside the grounds of Preston Hall. Stretches can still be traced today in the woodland. In the 1850s the railway moved to the line shown on the photo. |

The platform buildings with their magnificent canopies have now gone. I understand that the station was effectively worked as two stations: one for the trains on the main line to/from Northallerton and Leeds and the other for local Darlington - Teesside - Saltburn services. |
