Does anyone know what the tents or marquees are for? Is it a special event, or is it an encampment for workers engaged in the civil engineering work going on in the background? And what is going on there? It can't be the opening out of the rail tunnel into a cutting - that happened in the 1920s, and this photo is from 1935. |

What are the large number of railway wagons for? The flying ground is considerably higher than the the main line, so how did they get there and where are they going? |
