These sheds were originally built in 1919-20 as Platers Sheds for the Newcastle Shipbuilding Co that went bankrupt in 1921. Years later it became the 'Reay Gear Works' employing workers making gears & gearboxes.It later was sold to George Angus & it continued as a gear manufacturer. Its last owner was RW Transmissions in the late 50s or early 60s but it closed in the 1970s. |
