17-19 Great Windmill Street, the Windmill Theatre

The Panorama or rotunda, just off Leicester Square in London, was the World's first purpose-designed, permanent building for displaying 360 degree panoramas. The technique was developed by the artist Robert Barker and patented by him in 1787. This building was designed by Robert Mitchell to Robert Barker's requirements, and immediately became established as one of London’s principal visitor attractions. In 1865, then known as Burford’s Panorama, it was sold and became (and still is) the Roman Catholic Church of Notre Dame de France, the Francophone Catholic church for London’s French community.
