This looks like a brighton and Hove & District convertable bus, either on a A.E.C.Regent chassis or a Bristol K5G Chassis, they run on the 17 open top service in the summer from Rottingdean to King Alfred Hove, the A.E.Cs untill about 1954 and the Bristols untill about 1960, when they where replaced with Bristol Lodekka's

In the 50's to the 80's coaches operated by Southdown motor services, Campings Coaches, and Unique used to line up from here towards the palace pier to get custom for day tours or afternoon and evening tours, Southdown had a office just before the entrance to the pier and Campings Coaches had an office at the top of the steps leading down to the Aquarium (now Sea Life Centre)
