This is an interesting photograph. Centre right and moving round towards the top are the beginnings of the Craigie and Hayhill housing development. Craigie Way, James Campbell Road, Beech Grove, Craigie Lea, Hayhill, Churchill Crescent etc are laid out and they have started to build what became the 'Police Houses' at the foot of James Campbell Road. At the top, Robertson Crescent is built but not finished and I can see my Aunt and Uncle's house! To the far right is Craigie Home Farm, used by the Parks department and demolished 1962/64 to make way for Craigie College. There are more aerial photos of this area, taken a year or so later by the RAF, on the National Collection of Aerial Photography website. By that point many more houses have been built, including what was to be my grandparents' and parents' house. Those photos also show the 'Pitch and Put' golf course laid out but not yet open and clearer views of the farm. |
