Armstrong accumulator tower of octagonal shape with chimney stack. Listed building. Tower damaged in WW2 and shortened as a result. Accumulator towers were used to provide power to the cranes in the docks. Regent's Canal Dock (now Limehouse Basin) was served by collier ships that brought from the North East ports It was then offloaded into barges that delivered it to gasworks in the vicinity. Norway Wharf - at right angles to the Dock - stored timber from Scandinavia.

Note: The extent of roof damage to this whole area can be measured by the replacement of 'white' roofs as opposed to the dark roofs, which would have been slate.

A play park with swings, roundabout, maypole and other childrens rides, Brickfield Gardens lay derelict after it suffered damage during WW2. This 'ghost town' park was an intriguing place to play as a kid in the late 1940's. Some of the battered rides still worked.

The East London Tabernacle, bombed and gutted by fire WW2 1944. The original building seated some 2,500 people. Rebuilt in 1954 it has seating for 500. As a kid I waded in a foot of collected rainwater inside the shell of this building and cut my bare feet on a mixture of garbage and debris. A girl older than me and with strong motherly insticts took me to her home and cleaned the wounds.

St. Paul's House in Timothy Road (formerly St. Dunstan's Road). On the left (north) side was a small Public House all the locals knew as Shackladys. I think its actual name was The St. Dunstan's Arms.
